All carnivores including dogs and cats, whose prey are usually herbivores, instinctively consume the intestines and their contents first, before consuming the remainder of the animal.  Wild animals are not plagued by the diseases that plague our domesticated pets.  We feel this proves conclusively that the botanical contents of the prey's intestines are a nutritional necessity for good health and that domesticated carnivores need an additional supply of plants and plant extracts to satisfy all their nutritional requirements and reach their full health potential.  However, domesticated pets are confined to kennel runs, small yards or kept indoors and do not have access to these plants.  These animals rely on humans to put the nutrients from the plants in their diet.  The domestication of dogs and cats and the use of unnatural, over-processed, chemically enhanced grocery-type commercial feeds has created many problems for the dog and cat.  The principal consequences of a commercial diet are that they present our dogs and cats with a nutritional challenge that their digestive systems are unable to cope with.  Simply, their bodies are incapable of assimilating the essential nutrients in their food.  The microflora in their digestive system just cannot cope, with the result that food remains undigested, toxins are formed and retained and the metabolism disturbed allowing diseases and other health problems to develop.

The concept of supplementation is to reintroduce into an animal's diet those plants that animals in their natural habit instinctively eat that not only do them good, but satisfy all their bodily needs. It's never too late to do it right, as many conditions can be rectified with a quality, natural diet with the addition of beneficial, healthful supplements.

Solid Gold SeaMeal is now yeast-free and has been re-formulated with flax seed meal, an excellent source of omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids. It is thought that some dogs may be allergic to certain types of yeast, although often the exact type of yeast causing the allergy, is unknown. In order to eliminate this possible allergen, the brewers yeast (which is just one of more than twenty different types of yeast) was removed from our SeaMeal, and replaced with flax seed meal.

The National Cancer Institute has evaluated flax seed and found that it:

• stimulates the immune system

• reduces the incidence of coronary heart disease

• is high in phyto-nutrients which have anti-tumor properties and may be linked to a low incidence of colon-cancer

• contains a high level of antioxidants, may lower tryglycerides cholesterol, and have favorable effects on insulin activity.

Dr. Michael Murray ND, one of the world’s leading authorities on natural medicine, explains that when flax meal reaches the intestines, the bacteria there change it to compounds that are extremely protective against cancer. Dr Murray also writes that flax may improve nerve function and protect against diabetic disease.

SeaMeal is made with nineteen different species of organic natural sourced sea vegetation (source Solid Gold Health). It is an excellent source of nutrition, and a preferred supplement vs many chemical vitamins and minerals. Of the nineteen different species, only one is kelp. Kelp should never be fed on its own (without the other seaweeds). We use kelp for its iodine content (see note below regarding iron deficiency also affecting coat color in addition to it's affects on the thyroid and thymus glands), but kelp should never be fed on its own (without the other seaweeds) because it contains small amounts of arsenic. The other eighteen types of seaweed contain arsenate, which binds with the arsenic molecules and takes them out of the body, preventing them from being absorbed.

The addition of seaweed and kelp to an animal’s diet can produce many great benefits. SeaMeal contains 60 trace minerals, 12 vitamins and 22 amino acids. The body is made up of 11 % trace minerals and 4 % vitamins. Without the minerals, the vitamins cannot work.

SeaMeal also contains digestive enzymes, which improve the digestibility of the food. Solid Gold foods are more that 80 % digestible, but with the addition of SeaMeal, this increases to a level of 92% digestibility.

SeaMeal supplementation often helps prevent dogs from stool eating. SeaMeal also helps to boost up the thymus and thyroid glands, which control the immune, hormone and enzyme systems of the body.

Seameal helps to restore lost hair growth, intensify coat color and particularly remove the red tinge that can affect black coats in cats, and dogs such as Dobermans, Labs and Rottweilers, which may be caused by an iron deficiency. It is also excellent for dogs and cats with white coats.

Animals benefit greatly from the addition of sea vegetation to their diets. SeaMeal helps to boost up the immune system, which is the first line of defense against allergens. Sea vegetation supplements also helps to improve systemic oxygenation, assisting the blood stream to flush out toxins. Supplementation with SeaMeal helps prevent chewing at the feet,  scratching at the skin and base of the tail and hair loss.

One of the key elements in SeaMeal is iodine, which is vital for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. SeaMeal is often used for dogs with hyper- or hypothyroidism.

Seaweeds are divided into four major color classifications: green, brown, red, and blue-green. Many studies have documented the beneficial effects of consuming foods rich in the various pigments that give them their bright colors.

Solid Gold Seameal contains several species of green Seaweeds, which are rich in chlorophyll, a detoxifier. There is only one atom difference between a molecule of whole blood and a molecule of chlorophyll. The chlorophyll contains magnesium and the blood contains hemin (iron).

The blue-green algae family is acknowledged for its immune-enhancing properties.

The brown and red colored seaweeds used in our Seameal are rich in carotenoids which also have anti-oxidant and anti-cancer properties and support the heart and circulation. Flavonoids which produce red, purple or blue colored seaweed, support connective tissue regeneration, collagen formation, help to stabilize and protect blood capillaries from oxidative damage, and also have antioxidant benefits.

We recommend Seameal as an ideal supplement for all life stages.

Feed according to package instructions. We always recommend supplementation of processed pet foods with Solid Gold SeaMeal. Put a quarter inch warm water in the bottom of the food bowl. Add according to your pet's body weight:

No matter what other pet food companies may tell you, probiotics and digestive enzymes cannot be added directly to pet food and maintain life and optimum benefits.
They are killed at 120 F degrees, and many pet foods are cooked at around 265 F degrees. SeaMeal is a good source of uncooked, viable, digestive enzymes, which increase the digestibility of the food. Super premium natural petfoods are around 80% digestible on their own. When SeaMeal is added, they are around 92% digestible. It can take up to 22 days for the results of the SeaMeal to be seen. That is the rate of cell turnover in the body
