What is yeast: Yeast happily live on most normal skin, in ears, anal glands, between toes and on muzzles. Yeast in small normal numbers are harmless but when the yeasts are present in large numbers, disease results.

To help prevent yeast infections, and to help minimize chronic yeast issues in pets - use a healthy, low-grain/grain-free diet as the conversion of grain carbohydrate to sugar supplies food that feed yeast. Probiotic supplements provide additional beneficial bacteria to your dog’s diet which will help to boost the immune system’s response to harmful bacteria. Avoid foods containing corn or wheat, by-products, chemical preservatives, or in some cases soy, depending on the cause of the dog’s allergy. It may also be advisable to change to a single-source protein diet and treats to eliminate any protein allergy. Environmental allergies may also be a factor.

Canine And Feline Ear Infections: The majority of dog and cat ear infections (90 percent) are actually caused by allergens like ragweed and tree pollen, food allergies or chemicals within their environment.
