Herbsmith Clear AllerQi

Herbsmith Clear AllerQi relieves allergic reactions by treating the root of the problem, excess heat in the dog

Symptoms:
Red itchy skin, weeping skin lesions, itching, restless, irritable, eye discharge, goopy eyes, rubbing face, chewing on legs, chewing on paws

Indications:
An allergy is a hypersensitive reaction to an allergen (food, inhalant, contact, etc.). The body defenses are signaled into an overreaction to the allergen. This hypersensitivity often causes extreme heat in the animal, seen clinically as reddened skin, hot weepy lesions, panting, restlessness and skin that is hot to the touch. Herbsmith Clear Allergies has Chinese medicinal herbs that cool heat and harmonize the body’s defenses to decrease this hypersensitive reaction.

Chinese Theory:
According to Chinese medical theory, the liver acts as a pump that provides the smooth flow of energy, or Qi, within the body. When allergies lead to Liver Qi Stagnation, an imbalance within the liver, the “pump” overheats and produces skin that is hot to the touch. The herbs in Herbsmith Clear Allergies harmonize the liver and clear this heat without injuring the dog’s overall energy.

Chinese medicine explains that life is a balance of yin and yang. Yin represents the fluids, maternal, quiet, nighttime and passive aspects of the body. Yang represents the heat, inflammation, active, male, daytime and aggressive aspects. When allergies exist the body is in a state of excess heat, or yang. As the heat increases, it eventually burns off the essential fluids, or yin.

This depletion of fluids causes the development of phlegm in the allergic pet. Phlegm is seen in the form of a greasy coat, foul-smelling breath, and eye and ear discharge. Herbsmith Clear Allergies resolves the heat and excessive yang. With proper diet and care, the yin is replenished and the phlegm, odor and allergies are resolved.

Hista-bloc for Pets Herbal Combination

This formula provides relief to allergy sufferers and may also benefit asthmatic pets. It can also be used for colds, flu, runny nose, and conditions of excessive phlegm. HistaBlock is what its name says--a natural histamine blocker, or natural anti-histamine.  This makes it an excellent choice for fighting allergies--whether they be food or environmental.

Histablock controls the immune system’s inflammatory response, with its blend of:

Stinging nettle Urtica dioica: Traditionally Stinging Nettle is known as a master plant. An anti inflammatory and containing anti histamine properties, nettle is often used in combination with other herbs such for seasonal allergies, to alleviate the itching and irritation of hives and itching skin.

A gentle diuretic and mineral rich anti inflammatory herb, Nettle leaf can offer benefit for symptoms of arthritis and joint pain. Useful for clearing uric acid buildup from the body, Nettle leaves can also be ingested for symptoms of gout.

Known as an alterative herb, or blood cleanser, Nettle leaf is a blood purifier which supports the function of the liver and kidneys and provides support for all stubborn skin conditions such as hot spots, psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema.

Nettle leaf gradually supports the return of optimal health of the whole body, improving the body’s ability to eliminate waste matter, tonifying the tissues and organs, while providing the body with essential nutrients for vitality.

An excellent source of chlorophyll and packed full of minerals including vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, calcium, magnesium and silica. Nettle leaf is an excellent addition to the diet for conditions of anemia and depletion and can be consumed internally as a tonic herb for long periods of time for pets who are recovering from a long illness.

Quercetin Dihydrate Dimorfandra mollis: is a naturally occurring bioflavonoid that supports healthy histamine levels, thereby helping to sustain a balanced immune response to allergens.

Zhi Shi Citrus aurantium : Citrus Aurantium, is made from the unripe fruit of the citrus aurantium tree and has been traditionally used in chinese medicine (known as Zhi Shi - the immature plant) beneficially for lowering lipid levels, gastrointestinal complaints, mineral metabolism and hair loss among a myriad of other things. Bitter orange is the western name for Zhi Shi. The bitter orange herb contains flavones, the alkaloids synephrine which mimics the neurotransmitter epinephrine to open the bronchioles, octopamine, and N-methyltyramine and carotenoids, which stimulate the sympathetic nervous system.  Bitter, stimulant, diuretic, expectorant, hypertensive. Works thermogenicaly with the bodies’ natural thermometer control.

Bromelain Ananus comosus: The many benefits of Bromelain been known since 1876. Bromelain "releases" inflammation by breaking down proteins in swollen tissues. It also helps the digestion of proteins, stops blood clot formation, and has antiviral properties. Bromelain inhibits the formation of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a chemical in the body that causes inflammation. At the same time, it stimulates the production of prostaglandin E: (PGEj), an anti-inflammatory chemical. Bromelain is a good source of manganese, as well as containing significant amounts of Vitamin C, It also assists the body by enhancing the assimilation of herbs, vitamins and other nutrients.

Every home with dogs should have apple cider vinegar. It's a remedy with multiple uses for dogs: alleviating allergies, arthritis, establishing correct pH balance. You can also give apple cider vinegar to cats and horses.

As written in an excellent, 1997 article by Wendy Volhard:
"...If your dog has itchy skin, the beginnings of a hot spot, incessantly washes its feet, has smelly ears, or is picky about his food, the application of ACV may change things around. For poor appetite, use it in the food - 1 tablespoon, two times a day for a 50 lb. dog. For itchy skin or beginning hot spots, put ACV into a spray bottle, part the hair and spray on. Any skin eruption will dry up in 24 hours and will save you having to shave the dog. If the skin is already broken, dilute ACV with an equal amount of water and spray on.

Taken internally, ACV is credited with maintaining the acid/alkaline balance of the digestive tract. To check your dog's pH balance, pick up some pH strips, and first thing in the morning test the dog's urine. If it reads anywhere from 6.2 - 6.5, your dog's system is exactly where it should be. If it is 7.5 or higher, the diet you are feeding is too alkaline (often related to grains and poor sources of protein) and in combination with a higher protein/low carb diet, ACV will help to re-establish the correct balance.

If you have a dog that has clear, watery discharge from the eyes, a runny nose, or coughs with a liquid sound, use ACV in his or her food. One teaspoon twice a day for a 50 lb. dog will do the job.

After your weekly grooming sessions, use a few drops in his or her ears after cleaning them to avoid ear infections. Other uses for ACV are the prevention of muscle weakness, cramps, feeling the cold, calluses on elbows and hock joints, constipation, bruising too easily, pimples on skin surfaces, twitching of facial muscles, sore joints, arthritis and pus in the urine. There are also reports that it is useful in the prevention of bladder and kidney stones.

Fleas, flies, ticks and bacteria, external parasites, ring worm, fungus, staphylococcus, streptococcus, pneumococcus, mange, etc., are less to inhabit a dog whose system is acidic inside and out. Should you ever experience any of these with your dog, bathe with a nice gentle natural shampoo, rinse thoroughly, and then sponge on ACV diluted with equal amounts of warm water. Allow your dog to drip dry. It is not necessary to use harsh chemicals for minor flea infestations. All fleas drown in soapy water and the ACV rinse makes the skin too acidic for a re-infestation. If you are worried about picking up fleas when you take your dog away from home, keep some ACV in a spray bottle, and spray your dog before you leave home, and when you get back. Take some with you and keep it in the car, just in case you need it any time. Obviously for major infestations, more drastic measures are necessary. ACV normalizes the pH levels of the skin, makes your dog unpalatable to even the nastiest of bacteria and you have a dog that smells like a salad, a small price to pay! "
